| Dear Loose Subscriber, We're close. How close? So close that the Loose Team can almost taste it. In the world of web publication nothing is certain, but if all goes according to plan Loose Record (dot com) will be launched by the time your inbox gets stuffed by another mailer. We've worked our combined butts off to put together a site that is informative, eye catching and most importantly; fun. Hopefully you'll agree with us. This being said, our lives have been severely compromised due to our passion for all things Loose. Our show attendance is down, but luckily we have a great team of writers and photographers reporting from all over the country. The fruits of our collective labor should be ready for you to enjoy in the very near future. Please keep your fingers crossed, and take a minute to tell us what we've been missing. Below you'll find information regarding Amoeba Music, Sub Pop Summer Tours and your bimonthly batch of Goodies. Keep It Loose, Loose Record (Christina, Jay, Josh, Michael & Serkan) ****************************** *************************** The Indie Retail Nucleus: Amoeba Music Many of our fellow New Yorkers take pride in the beloved independent record shops located within the five boroughs. Shops like Other Music, Academy, Kim's and Earwax satisfy our incessant lust for new sounds, but they don't compare to their Left Coast brethren. If you've stepped foot in one of the three Amoeba Music stores in Berkley, Hollywood and San Francisco, then you know our darling East Coast shops would loose the battle if they were to meet in the ring. The Amoeba Music stores not only house heaps of new and used CD's and vinyl, but they also open their doors for numerous artists. Their in-store schedule reads something like a popular club with the only difference being their shows happen before the sun sets and the cover won't dent your bank account. If you're ever in the area, make it a point to reserve a couple hours to comb through their comprehensive stock. Below you'll find the current in-store schedule for the Hollywood and San Francisco stores. 05.11.05 :: Spoon :: Hollywood 05.11.05 :: The Perceptionists :: San Francisco 05.13.05 :: Spoon :: San Francisco 05.14.05 :: M.I.A. :: San Francisco 05.17.05 :: Alaska! :: Hollywood 05.18.05 :: Iron & the Albatross :: San Francisco 05.19.05 :: Prefuse 73 :: San Francisco 05.20.05 :: Architecture In Helsinki :: Hollywood 05.22.05 :: Six Organs of Admittance :: San Francisco 05.25.05 :: Trail of Dead :: San Francisco 05.28.05 :: Smog :: San Francisco 05.31.05 :: Pine*am :: Hollywood * Amoeba Music ( http://www.amoebamusic.com ) * Other Music ( http://www.othermusic.com/ ) * Academy Records ( http://www.academy-records.com ) ****************************** *************************** Featured Tour: Sub Pop Hits the Road Oh dearest gods of Sub Pop; how we owe thee. Thank you for bringing us the blessed rock in full force during the sticky summer months. If you've been in a Soap Opera like coma over the past couple decades, the words Sub Pop might not mean much. In that case you should check the index of your indie bible for the lineage of the most prolific independent labels in recent memory. This summer Sub Pop is cracking the whip and sending their talent across the country for various stops in every market imaginable. We've decided to list the tours of Comets on Fire, Rogue Wave, Helio Sequence and Sleater-Kinney, but the buck doesn't stop there. You'll want to check out the Sub Pop website ( http://www.subpop.com ) for more information including itineraries for Iron and Wine, The Constantines and Band of Horses. As we collectively brace for the heat, buy yourself a lots of deodorant because these shows are sure to make you sweat.
