Mama, I'm coming home...

That's right, its 4:40pm on Friday, and I'm leaving Clearfield. Don't worry, I'll be back for Christmas, but right now, I've got to sort this moving shit out.
Thanksgiving came and went...

Another Turkey Day is in the books and I must say it was pretty amazing. The dinner my mother prepared was a little bit of fantastic, and I found a unique comfort in falling asleep on the couch rather than running out to get loaded. We did end up at my long-time friend and just about brother, Matt's house for some low stakes gambling which is always a good time.

Today I'm trying to figure out if I can get a ride back home so Kyle and I can get packing for the big move on Sunday. If you are in the NYC area this Sunday and want to work for free beer and wings, give me a call, I'll put you on the payroll. Either way, I'll be back where I belong soon enough.

A jigger of news...

The Rolling Stones 40 Licks tour brings in a solid amount of cash, but it still doesn't stand up to the Voodoo Lounge Tour. Will these guys ever stop rocking? Let's hope not.

Our favorite anti-establishment Swedish rockers decide to cut the crap and cash in on their expanding cult fanbase.

The crazy blokes of Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster haven't disappeared. They have been busy getting a single ready that will probably make your ears bleed and your arms swing.

Chris Martin and the rest of the limey's in Coldplay were writing a song for the Man in Black before he was sent off to reunite with June. What will they do with it? Who cares?

Moby, Henley, Matthews?!? What the fuck? Should I start liking these guys because of what they are fighting for? Nah, but it is still nice to know they are aligning the masses.

Chuck Klosterman of Spin takes a minute to explore the relationship between death and rock immortality. Read this one and get learned.

Back in Bumble Fuck...

After what seemed to be a quick day in the office, Trevor and I hit the road last night so I could return to central Pennsylvania for the holiday. We made great time, and I got dropped off around at the house around 10:30pm. I watched the rest of the Queer Eye For the Straight Guy episode that was on because my mom doesn't miss any of them. I even got shhhh'd during the final part by her and my sister.

Following some kitchen highjinks, Evan came to pick me up. We went over to Trevor's house to scratch some records and get psyched up for Dingers. Thats right folks, the bar we goto in town is called Dingers. We went down with Sloppy and ran into a pile of kids. It was great to see everyone and just ramble on about life in general. An after party ensued back at Trevor's, and we have decided to hit Buster's and drink all day.

Welcome home to me.

Just Cause I'm Here, Doesn't Mean the Rock Stops...

Pitchfork has released the final Top 20 in their list of the Top 100 Albums of the 1990's. Clocking in the Top 10 is Pavement's Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain; Nirvana's Nevermind; and Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted, but you know I would disagree with the #1 pick.

The Stills enjoy sometime in the CMJ spotlight.

Filter reports that Kindercore has not actually gone under, but they are filing suit against their partners The Telegraph Company.

Jay-z's final NYC concert (so he says) errupts into a mayhem filled evening.

Franz Ferdinand get ready to drop another Ep. The hype train is pulling back into station.

This week, the AV Club takes on Burt Bacharach and reviews Jay-Z, the Thrills and Iggy Pop.

What the fuck is going on...

A conversation on IM:

LankSXC: if there is one man who can convey the universal feelings of longing, regret, love, and rock and roll music it's fucking bryan adams
-----
jayGTC: so true. so true. and though he may have only been a blip on the charts at a certain time where Americans didn't know what they wanted out of music, his impression and impact will last forever.
-----
LankSXC: i cant think of a more timeless song about playing music in the garage, hoping to hit it big than summer of '69
-----
jayGTC: yeah, but don't forget his power ballad infused with teenage angst. 18 Til I Die was not only a clever way to express his longing for the days of old, but an outcry to the gods of time to stop the sands from flowing.

Rolling Around on the East Side...

Last night saw a bit of Good Times come and go. It all started when my friend Trevor (from PA) met me at work and we proceeded to Bside for a couple drinks in the company of Sivan and the bartender who is in PS.

Then we met up with Mike and Josh so we could go down to the new Apt so Josh could take a look around. He seemed to dig on the place, and I'm psyched to be living with that kid (and not just because of his huge record collection). The four of us hit that half price sushi joint on 2nd Ave for some bitching grub and then parted ways.

Trevor and I rolled down to HiFi for a couple drinks and some pool. After getting nice and toasty we headed over to Bside to meet Hawkins and Kelley for a quick drink. Noah showed up and the five of us headed back to 224 for one of the final sessions.

It was a low key night of Good Times.

Some News For The Bored...

Pitchfork opens up numbers 60-21 of their Top 100 Albums of the 1990's. Take a look and disagree because you can.

Will Ferrell's new project looks like it will be hilarious. This guy is taking the ball and running with it. I like it, that's genius.

Ruby hands in her report on what it was like to sing on the Darkness' Christmas record. These kids rock so hard. Imagine being in grade school and going to Abbey Road Studios to record with those guys.

If you are gonna sing songs about drinking and cowboys, you better get ready to live the lifestyle. In our latest music industry arrest, country great Glenn Campbell gets booked for D.U.I.

For those of us with ipods, this is bad news. See what one rogue is doing about it. (must have Quicktime). If mine craps out I may need serious consoling.

God Damn Hippies. British Sea Power have to cancel a gig after their bassist sprained his wrist when he fell out of a tree.

This is a message from Hawkins in reference to Friday's Party:

END of an ERA.

Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, Its over!

Jay Belin has finally outgrown my apartment; we're taken this boy to the big league. But not until I get back from Afrika.

Just wanted to say thanks for all those that came out. Hope no one went to the hospital, ruined their fancy blouse, made out with anyone inappropriate, and otherwise regret that they even know Jay. Cause there's very little sympathy from this side of town.

God bless the Jungle...

Man in the Mirror.

We believe you, Michael. Really we do.
The new news.

Pitchfork gives us the their picks for the Top 100 Albums of the 1990's. Today we get the first installment which consists of #60-100. See how your catelog matches up.

Rolling Stone has done the list thing bigger and better. Their latest issue features the Top 500 albums of all time as voted by the likes of Malkmus, Beck, some Strokes and many more.

Lover, Movie Star, Guitarhero. Jack White contributes five tracks to the film Cold Moutain in which he also appeared in.

For those of you who have never been lucky enough to sit down with Please Kill Me here is a Rolling Stone teaser about one of the book's stars.

The Guardian goes backdoor on the Strokes. The part about no beer at the afterparty makes me feel bad for them. Or not.
Too much is never enough.

Another successful House Party was thrown at Hawkins joint on Friday night. The evening started slow when Kyle and I headed down there to make the jungle juice. Eventually kids trickled in until the room was filled and we had to head to the annex room (read: roof). Everyone got nice and bevvied, and we ended up at 7B for late night get downs.

So the biggest news of the weekend happened last night after an 8 hour session in a computer lab. After that hellish Sunday activity, I cruised down St. Marks place and picked up a buritto at the new Chipotle. It was everything I remember about Chipotle and then some. Even thought that new complex on the punkest of streets is hideous, I'm happy to see an option to San Loco.

This morning was all about: The Strokes, Room is on Fire

Get by with a little help.

We here at Good Times want to help you, the reader, out as much as possible. Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas, which means you need to start shopping. Here is a great idea for your mountain man, (Thank you Daylen). Something for your frat brother. And finally, something for your one eyed mother.
Everyone in Stripes.

Much to the dismay of England's hardest criminals, Mr. Chris Martin (of Coldplay fame) will not be headed to lock-up. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Mr. Phil Spector will be as lucky. He will be surrounded by walls of sound, (that was bad, I know). The Kind of Pop will be joining Phil.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announce their newest inductees which include George Harrison and Prince.

Spin gives us a solid Darkness profile. “You could say it’s a reaction against how, ever since grunge, rock has been so downbeat, so freakin’ up its own arse.” Preach on Darkness.

Thats all you get.
A Reflection on Clear Heads...

So its been a week, well a working week, since I last smoked. I'm trying to make an effort to clear my head, but I noticed that while laying off the green, my body craves the sweet sweet hooch. It could have been that Bside was handing out Free Booze from 6-8 last night for a Stop Smiling party. Or it could been that I'm in the throws of moving and its stressful as all hell (who has an apt for me?). Either way, I found myself loaded by 9pm last night, and their ain't nothing wrong with that.

Bside was a mob scene, and there were a lot of old heads around who I haven't run into in ages, but I'm always pleased when I do. Sivan keep the Brooklyn Lager flowing till 8pm was reached, and she switched me back to the usual. While shooting pool with Erin, Will, and Andy I noticed myself stumbling around.

Eventually, Andy, Cami and I headed out to Andy's place in Bklyn to take a look at an empty room. On the way back in to Manhattan, I tried to convince Cami to jump on the back of the service train with me, but wisely, she declined. We waited for the L for what seemed to be forever, but the good company, and fading buzz made for Good Times.

2. Hong Kong w/ My Favorite @ The Knit
3. Filter Issue #8 Launch Party @ Coral Room

I'm still in the air in regards to plans, call me, lets make some.
Good God... Family Guy is Back!

In the most welcomed of today's entertainment news, Family Guy creators and Fox are talking reunion. Dear God, please let this be true. This could change my life. 35 more episodes! Too bad we have to wait a whole year for this to happen, but trust me, it will be worth the wait. (Thanks go to David Sales for the heads up).
Last Night's White Stripes Gig.

Following a last minute project at work that required me to bust ass for 2 hours, I broke out and headed home with high hopes for the evening. The plan was to meet Ms. McDonald for dinner before heading up to Roseland to see the dangerous Detroit twosome pound through some rock.

After treking through some serious rain, I killed some time at the Megastore listening to the new Primal Scream collection. Liz and I met at the pretensious, yet delicious Coffee Shop on Union Square West where we enjoyed a killer meal and some solid bevvies.

We slid over to the NR and sped up to the Roseland. Upon arrival, Liz qued me in on a little Roseland secret, (actually, I don't know if its a secret, but my dumb ass never knew about it). She showed me the bar behind the stage. We picked up a couple drinks and may our way into the crowd.

The White Stripes came out to a solid ovation and proceeded to pound through some of their hits. My personal highlight was when I grabbed Liz on the shoulder and said that all I wanted to hear was Hotel Yorba, and I shit you not, they immediately ripped right into it. My major disappointment was the absence of Apple Blossom and I Think I Smell a Rat, but they did deliver tracks like Pretty Good Looking, I Want to Be the Boy That Warms Your Mother's Heart (a personal favorite), and Seven Nation Army. Meg took the mic for a beautiful (as beautiful as it could be) rendition of In the Cold, Cold Night.

There was one dark spot in the entire evening. When the duo came back on stage for an encore (which included Fell In Love With a Girl), Jack got extremely pissed about kids moshing and crowd surfing. Though I'm a strong advocate against both of those actions, (I am known for pulling kids down), Jack needs to realize where he is playing, and the crowd he is playing for. His little hissyfit dampened an otherwise amazing show.

Lucky for me, I was with Liz, who enjoyed the show twice as much as I did. She had an ear to ear grin the entire set, and kept commenting on how amazed she was. That girl is top notch.
SKYNYRD!

It's noon. Your band gets the call to open for Lynyrd Skynyrd at Hammerstein Ballroom tonight (!) Yes, the band that brought hits such as Give Me Back My Bullets and Whiskey Rock-A-Roller all the way from the Deep South. That's what happened to Jersey-via-Brooklyn transplants RANA yesterday.

These VanZants not to be confused with this Van Zandt. Loretta is the best fucking song ever. I wish I wrote that one.
For now, the News... More on the White Stripes later...

Can you imagine all the ass these kids will get in high school. Being that young and having your name in the liner notes would pretty much be the highlight of my life.

As if I would let this one slip under the wire. 12 year olds dude.

Pitchfork gives us their opinion on the Beatles Let it Be... Naked. I thought they would trash it, but they gave it a 7.0 which is almost as good as the new Belle & Sebastian record.

Remind me not to turn my radio dial. BBC radio is being taken over by Thom and his crew.

Is Courtney Love behind all this "new" Nirvana material. I remember when that band stood for something more than a way to squeeze early twenty-somethings for their hard earned money. Again I ask; is nothing sacred?

Were they shooting some of this video in on the side of Niagara (Ave A & 7th St)? I would think so because that IS an old Joe Strummer haunt.

Mr. Farber of the daily news shifts gears midweek. Tuesday he was discussing Ms. Spears new album and today he decides to tackle the White Stripes' first of three shows at Roseland. I'll fill you in on my experience of the second one once I have time and wit.

A Cheap Eats round-up by Time Out. It would be nice if cheap really meant $2.

Guided By Voices have legions of obsessed fans. Robert Pollard estimates the number at around 3,000. The same amount of songs he wrote between his morning shit and breakfast.
A Big Post and a Bigger Hangover.

It was everything anyone could have hoped it would be. Last night The Darkness decended upon a crowd of 1200 screaming fans at Irving Plaza and trust me when I say we were all blinded by the light.

Following a slow day at work, I caught up with Noah at my apt and we headed down to Bside where we met by a slew of kids who were ready to rock. The list is too long to mention, but highlights include running into Ms. Maygun, shooting pool with the long lost Leah, and seeing kids like the Beachs, Karen (who I didn't see enough of), Ovies, Willis, DikeFace, Stevo, Cameron, Sivan... (the list goes on). Once the clock rolled around to 9:30pm we headed to Shades of Green for the Beach tested, Daylen approved preshow ritual of an Irish Car Bomb. Then I ran to meet a New York Doll in front of the venue to help this fellow Darkness lover, get her fix. We got into Irving, and the wait was on.

At this point everything becomes a blurry mess of spandex, vodka tonic, head banging and Good Times. Once the four-piece hit the stage, everyone's hands went in the air as they played through their warm up intro. At this point, I was with Kyle and D who were rockin solid. By the third song, I had made it over to a group that included a crazier than usual Hawkins who was feeling the Darkness in his blood. I could try to tell you how amazing this show was, but it wouldn't compare to actually seeing it.

They played the hits. Highlights include: Growing on Me, I Believe in a Thing Called Love, Friday Night (which wasn't played at the Bowery show), and an encore rendition of Love on the Rocks (with no ice). Yes kids, those are the real song titles and these English boys are the real deal.

After the show, I rolled home because Noah was too busy talking to Q Magazine who were trying to reach him for comment.

-----------------------------------

Now for Something Completely Different.

The boys of Apollo Sunshine get some more solid press. Its great to see them snowballing (and not in the Clerks sense of the word).

In the biggest sea, the smallest fish rarely survive. Villiage Voice trys to sort out the mess that is the Big 5... or is it 3? A predicted hike in sales may be the light at the end of the tunnel, but don't these majors think it would be better to work with and embrace the technology rather than standing against it?

First of all, how scary is this picture. Secondly, do you think Cali Tax dollars paid for that vacation? Finally, isn't he supposed to live in the Gov Mansion?

Who would be dumb enough to let their kids go here to play? Here is the Guardian's take on the incident. I heard a good MJ joke today on Stern. After MJ's wife had her 3rd child, Michael asked the doctor how long he should wait before they start having sex again. The doctor told MJ he had better wait until the kid is at least 12 or 13. oh yeah.

Let the finger pointing begin. The situation at Telegraph and Kindercore gets a tad messier.

This is the best news I've heard all week. The Staton Island boys who make up Wu Tang are reforming and taking their show on the road. For all you hip hop haters, check it at the door, these boys are for real. The AV Club has a sit down with the leader of this operation.

A rock god takes a fall. Do you think that picture was before or after he colapsed?

So their new records suck (and their old records kind of do as well), but one thing can be said about these P-town Emopop boys: They have good taste in technology. Oh, and for the record, this article calls them the little brother of Modest Mouse.

This is the story of my life. If I was a girl, and people hit on me.

A little inspiration for how to prepare for The Darkness this evening. Ween's Road Journal.

Look below for details on tonight.
As the Darkness Descends...

Friends, the day is finally upon us. Tonight at Irving Plaza England's spandex clad international rock gods, The Darkness, will be jamming out what proves to be another amazing NYC show. The plan is as follows: Get out of work by 5pm; eat dinner by 6:30; change into one-piece cat suit by 6:45; show up at Bside by 7pm; get to Irving by 9:30pm. The doors open at 8pm and their are 2 openers. This should be a good time. Call me if you have any questions or if you want to come drink whiskey while cooking dinner.

Show times:

Kill Hannah (8:30pm)
Billy Talent (9:20pm)
The Darkness (10:15pm)

If you get home in time, don't forget to check out the Strokes on Conan as their residency chugs on. Last weeks What Ever Happened was amazing.

If you aren't headed to the Darkness gig, get down to Sin-e for another installment of the Vicious party with PS, Aierl Love Feed, and Dirty on Purpose all set to play.

Is it me, or has pitchfork fallen off the train? All of their news stories were reported by blogs last week.

-------------------------------------

Give um the Juice. Tons of news.

In their defense, PitchFork does have a nice tidbit on Interpol, but they should make that song available. And, as expected, they loved this retired MC's lastest musing.

This is the dumbest move record companies could make. Instead of nurturing artists and sitting back while they complete albums rather than pushing them to create "filler" tracks, record companies are urging artists to cut songs. Does anyone else see a problem with this model?

Is nothing sacred? I know my roommate will get it, so I'll read it, but damn let the man be.

Not only does Dave Simpson think the Beatles are overrated, but his shit doesn't stink either.

Jim Farber gives us his thoughts on Britney's new record. I was in the Daily News office last night, and I actually heard a photo editor discussing the fact that they don't have pictures showing enough skin. He wanted naked pictures. True story.

Though this may turn out to be a good thing, I wish the Libertines were gonna work with Mick Jones again. God help me if they go Britpop.

One of Detroit's loudest bands, the Von Bondies, talk up their plans for their next record.

Bono sucks. Thats all.

I just realized that Free Williamsburg has reviews of the Pleased, and Noah's favorite rockers, Elefant.

Ok, thats it. Now I'm going back to doing administrative work while Permission to Land plays quietly in my cubicle.

We will pick our 10 favorite answers, and then randomly select out of that pool. We will announce the winner on Monday. Good Luck and God Speed.

The Darkness Happy Hour.

It has come to my attention that all those with tickets to the Tuesday show at Irving (and the number is over 20) should make themselves available for a post work/rolling out of bed happy hour. We should make our scene at Bside (Ave B between 11th and 12th). I will be there as early as possible which means 6pm. Lets make this happen cause we will all want to be at proper level of bevvie by the time the Hawkins brothers hit the stage.

My apologies for not making it to Bside last night. I'm sure Mike threw down a solid set.

A Spot of News.

The Black Keys cancel their UK tour due to exhaustion and a broken bone.

I've seen the Queer Eye show before, but I wasn't to heartbroken when their was talk of cancelation. I'm posting this for Paul Bothe, you may now sigh in relief.

So Slayer predicted 9/11. Metal has been taken to a whole new level. (link via Prefix).

Being a Shithead isn't easy.

This message goes out to all the kids I forgot to call last night. I'm deeply sorry for any strife I may have caused, but rest assured I was drunk and in bed by 12:30am. After a long day, 5 hours of sleep the previous evening and a solid 4 hour block of playing cards and getting tossed, I went into my bedroom to make a phone call. Upon emerging, it appeared as though everyone had split. My roommate, who was more than tossed, informed me that the group had moved on to Grassroots. There was little deliberation as to whether or not I would pass out. Obviously, the former prevailed. I hope you all had a killer evening.

Sunday Evening Good Times.

Make sure to get off your ass this evening so we can send the weekend off in style. Tonight at Ms. Sivan's watering hole, Bside (Ave B, btwn 12/13), Mike Realistic will be kicking off the new Sunday and Monday DJ sets. Come and listen in awe as Mike spins the best rock and roll you've never heard. He hits the decks around 10pm and will keep it rocking until 2am. Come early if you have work. Stay late if you don't. Sivan will make sure to keep the ice cubes cold and the Whiskey/Rheingold special stocked.

Sunday Scrubs.

Our little girl is all growns up. NY Daily News begs the question: Can sluts still move records? I'm gonna have to say yes.

Dancing on a Friday Night.

I purchased 4 tickets to the Baltimore Darkness show and thought that Noah, Cami, Erin and I were gonna make the Sunday night trek. Unfortunately that didn't pan out, but I did manage to sell the tics on ebay and help a dude move ahead with a lady friend. Here is a quote from his email:

This show is SOOOO SOLD OUT!! Not a ticket to be found! THANK YOU!!! I have scored serious points with the girl!!

A few to many exclamation points, but I think you get the idea. This is just another testiment to my never ending quest to get dudes, who aren't me, laid.

Another Friday has come and gone. After work I headed to the MegaStore in Union Square to wait for my roomate so we could head out to Bklyn. We were checking out an apartment at the Morgan stop in the OfficeOp's building. While milling about the store for a solid hour, I much have listened to every record on display, but for the life of me, I couldn't find a copy of Jay Z's new record. Did I miss something? Is it not coming out in stores? In any event, I purchased the Franz Ferdinand Ep and (finally) the Stellastarr* full length which is a lot more fun than expected. Following the Bklyn lookout, some kids came over to 224 and got the night started (even though my plan was to stay in and say fuck you friday night). We eventually went to the MusicBox for Dana's 21st. There were a lot of heads in that bar, and though the music selection was subpar at best, the evening was filled with Good Times. Some how, I found myself standing in my kitchen at 5:30am with close to 20 kids bouncing around the apartment, and one girl passed out in the bedroom... lucky me. Eventually they all cleared out, and I was able to crash by 6:30am with a proper level of bevvies consumed. Now I find myself at Noah's indulging in some fine eggs scrambled up by Mr. McCormick.

No News.

The Strokes make a wise decision in choosing their new single. I almost lost it when they closed with this track at the Bowery show.

Filter stops by Cali's famed Mod Lang and gives a solid repot on all things import and indie.

Tonight some friends and family pay tribute to the Man in black.

Former Pavement guitarist, Scott Kannberg, and his band, The Preston School of Industry, get ready to release a new record with a little help from the boys in Wilco.

No Time for Darkness.

My dream of seeing the Darkness twice in one week is now over. Big up's to Mama Belin for helping me get those posted on Ebay.

Sam Champion brought the Rock.

Last night I met Stevo on the corner, and we proceeded to our favorite LES bar (Bside) only to be greated by the lovely Sivan and Karen. Sivan kept the drinks cold and Karen kept the commentary colorful (I don't really know what that means, but it kind of rhymes). After a couple games of pool we headed to Kristie and Julia's pad for a delicious dinner from my favorite Pennslyvania pair (ok, its stopping now). We proceeded to get proper bevvied and then we piled in a cab that was headed for the Tribeca RC. There were a lot of great kids out at the show last night in honor of Mr. Jersey Dan and Sam Champion. We caught the Zambonies hockey fueled set (they actually came in full gear). Their songs were quirky and fun, but we were ready for Sam Champion. By this time, I was well bevvied, and not ready for what the SC was ready to throw down. The boys played all the hits with a heavy passion that is seen all to rarely. Noah really let go and decided to let his guitar do the talking. Hell, there was even a transition. Thats right, a transition. They played all the hits from the Ep (or demo if you will) along with some new tunes that were quite impressive. Make sure you check these boys out the first chance you get, cause soon enough they will be huge in Minneapolis or Portland (?) and we will only get to see them when they come on tour.

On to the news:

Say what you will about Mr. Diddy, but this is a classy move. Way to give it back to the kids P Diddy.

Does anyone have plans for New Years yet? If not, lets seriously consider hopping a flight and checking out this show. I'll bring the hookers. You bring the blow.

Joe Jackson gives us his explaination of child abuse. I agree with Joseph. Without a good whipping, Michael may have turned out strange.

Sometimes praying to God actually works. My prays have been answered.

Larry Flynt gives us one more reason to buy the new Hustler.

Pink and Tommy Lee. Yeah, she succumbed to his charm. Or she saw the tape that the rest of America saw and wants a piece of that action. God bless the Crue.

One more music note. Noah, DT (of Circle and Square), and I had this conversation just the other day. Pearl Jam gave up the fight and passed the torch to none other than... String Cheese Incident. Everyone should collectively bend over and be ready to get fucked.

Disc that got me to work this morning: Pavement, Wowee Zowee

FREE Show tonight: Sam Champion

This evening the better half of Good Times Roll, Noah Chernin, and the rest of Sam Champion will play a set of good times rock'n roll at the Tribeca RC. The festivities are in honor of Mr. Jersey Dan who will be celebrating another year tacked onto the principle. Sam Champion will hit at 10:30pm, but get there early to hang out with the crew. If you want to avoid the cover charge email me here, and I will forward the invite for you to print.

"Best of" lists have shifted from records to i-pod playlists. This list is no exception.

Some of my favorite songs as of late:

"Queen of England" The Mendoza Line
"Orange Juice (Blues for Breakfast)" Bob Dylan and the Band
"Down At The Corner Beer Joint" Willie Nelson
"The Ark" The Boggs
"Meet Me Here at Dawn" CASS MCCOMBS
"Mr. Churchill Says" The Kinks
"Long May You Burn" Papa M
"Kentucky Woman" Neil Diamond
"Texas Never Whispers" Pavement
"Running Back" Thin Lizzy
More Good Stuff:

Mr. Smith and the rest of the Cure have decided to change our lives with the an announcement of a 71-song box set.

Local Bands NYC is claiming that Bright Eyes will play a pre-Turkey Day show at Lit. For the record, this is the third post today of a band I truly dislike, but you might dig them. Noah does.

Daily Dose of Stuff:

Two Darkness notes. In the newest issue of Q Mr. Chernin and Ms. Lane have been quoted in reference to the Darkness' live performance at the Bowery. Secondly, has anyone checked out the latest issue of the British Magazine, The Face? If you haven't get to a newstand quickly because it has some unbelieveable pictures of Justin Hawkins and the rest of the Darkness crew. Or if you live in my neighborhood, come over, get your mug on the wall, and see it there before we head to the show.

The people over at Kindercore Records who house bands such as Of Montreal, Dressy Bessy, and the Agenda have been shut down. This is a shame since the head of the company (and its brother, Telegraph) is a really nice guy. I had a chance to sit down with him during a mentor session at CMJ 2002, and believe me, he was just in it for the rock. RIP Kindercore.

I heard that Radiohead is a fairly popular band among indie kids. So I figured a link to this story would be appropriate. This in no way changes the way I feel about them.

I also have a strong distaste for Ryan Adams and I believe the first line of this review sums up why.

Yeah, and I really thought OJ Simpson was innocent as well.

Apollo Sunshine gets interviewed by the A.V. club. These are some great guys who I was lucky enough to meet about a year ago. Check them out with the Natural History in the near future.

Also, thanks to those of you who have offered to have the screening party. I will be in touch once Ms. Notop gets me the copy.

Paris Uncensored.

So if you haven't seen it yet, and you don't feel like waiting till the screening party, here is Ms. Paris Hilton in all her glory. The tape is quite boring, but at least we can all say we saw it.
Lot's to say. No one to Listen.

Congratulations to Sivan, Carlos, Kelly and the rest of the Bside crew for their fantastic review in the latest edition of the village voice. You should definately get accustomed to this bar and with the new addition of Sunday Dj nights (one of which Mr. Mike Realistic will be spinning) the popularity is bound to soar.

FYI, if you have a bit of extra flow and you are looking for some bitching Thai food, check out Holy Basil on 2nd for a solid curry. Cam-ron introduced me to the goodness just last night.

Filter's recap of All Tomorrow's Party. It's not a very exciting article, but make sure to read the whole article. A nice tidbit referencing Mr. Malkmus's newest endeavor and I can speak for both Good Timers when I say we couldn't be more excited.

For all you Interpol fanatics, here's a history lesson being put out by one of the greatest labels ever.

Ok, so as you may know, these Brits put out one of my favorite records of last year. They are fucking punk rock, and this is a little proof of it.

Does anyone get the BBC? If so you should call me so we can have a night of Television together. We can first watch this show which is a favorite, but then the second series of the hilarious comedy The Office gets underway at 10pm.

The big five, wait, its now the big four, continue to swallow everything in site.

I usually hate frat boys... Well hate is such a strong word, especially after they got the credit for this beat down.

And finally, your's truly may have an in on a copy of a Paris Hilton tape. If I get it, who is gonna throw the veiwing party? I'm only taking serious submissions.

The first time I saw Elefant I couldn't believe Rico Suave had his own New York city post-punk-new-wave-rock-band circa 2001. Now I can't believe they have fans. Or offspring. Ladies and gentlemen, the Sexy Magazines.

The NY Post's coverage of the disaster at Plaid (formerly SPA) this past weekend. I heard Coner Oberst tried to console the upset crowd with an acoustic set, but his unique brand of pussy rock just made them cry more.

More from the Post. I never thought Pink had the ability to be funny or cool, but her usage of the 5th grade pseudonym has helped her climb into my top 100. Boy George continues to freak out most of his dying fanbase. And finally, Wesley Clark proves he's been down from day one.

We here at Good Times Roll have your Tuesday night dose of rock planned out. First, head down to the Mercury Lounge to check out These Bones who will be sure to throw down.

Next up. Just incase it slipped your mind last week (or if you were at their Bowery show), here is one more reason to stay up late on a Tuesday.

A fitting tribute in the right location for the late and great rock muse, Mr. Joey Ramone.

The people at Prefix agree with Mr. Chernin. The Shins Chutes too Narrow lives up to the hype.

Dance-Punk... What does that mean anyway? !!! decide to limit their live performances and take another stab at defining it.

Whoever said Alaskan poets couldn't slut it up on occassion were dead wrong. Thanks to Double-D for the link.

Finally, all of the street challenged kids have a place to reference the latest urban slang rising from the depths of the hood and into a dialogue near you.

Change is never a bad thing. Thanks to Mr. Good Times Roll for the opportunity to provide musings on today's New York rock scene.

Maybe it's time to lay it all out on the line now. My views *do not* reflect those of Jay Belin. He loves it all. I hate it all. We meet in the middle.

The Shins are on KCRW at 2pm. Mine's not a high horse, but James' is.
Who said change is a bad thing?

In an effort to make Good Times Roll more infectious than crabs on a prostitute, local jingle jangle expert and close friend of mine, Noah Chernin, will be joining me on this internet endeavor. As you may already know, Mr. Chernin is one-half (or is it one-third) of the NYC based rock outfit Sam Champion. He hopes to contribute quick wit and a kidney on a regular basis. People get ready. We may just change the face of popular music, or just get more kids to listen to the new Shins record. Either way, it will be a Good Time.
Back to the City, Back to the Grind.

So we pulled it off. This weekend a large group of kids headed to the back-waters of Pennsylvania for a weekend at the fabulous Z-money sisters' cabin. The trip went without a hitch, and thanks to the kids in State College we now have an even larger group of alcoholics to share Good Times with. What did we miss in the city? I have yet to hear reports from Manhattan correspondents, but I'm sure I will.

Here are some Links to break the Monday Boredom

Filter Magazine catches up with Interpol's Carlos D and dicusses why he is not only the king of darkness but the king of NYC.

Speaking of the Darkness, one fan is giving some much deserved props to the latest and greatest limey rockers.

Prefix Mag doesn't think Room is on Fire is anything to get excited about.

Leave it to Kid Rock to teach the post marathon P Diddy what "keeping it real" is all about.

Thank God Pitchfork didn't like this record. If hanging out on the lower east side at Niagara doesn't make you cool, maybe biting off the Strokes will.

Time to Go Camping.

As Iron Maiden so put it, its time to run to the hills of Pennsylvania. Everyone have a killer weekend and send me more links (that don't involve huge penises - you know who you are).

I'm hoping to get pictures on this blogger sooner than later, so if you goto a show, snap some pics and pass them along.
Happy Friday

For those of you who missed out, last night we had a welcome home (for the time being) party for my friend and your tattoo artist Will. Ms. Sivan provided the booze at her fine establishment (b-side), while Steveo, Karen, Jacob, and our new friends Rob and Oscar held it down on the pool table. I don't know if Will or his pup Deva got more love, but either way it was a Good Time.

Now to some news.

To those of you who didn't get a chance to catch the Strokes when they strolled through town, you can download the duet with el Strokes and Regina (cute as hell) Spektor here. The quality is poor (its a live recording), but listen to part two to get the feel of the song and a piece of the bitching guitar part.

The cute Beatle is looking to cash in on the recent dance wave revival with the release of a lost
