The Sports Report: Pick A Winner...

Last night the NFL season went from bad to worse for the New York Jets. It was a pitiful game to watch, but thankfully my frustration was shared with fellow Jets fans and one Eagles fan. Our quarterback sucks. Vinny Testaverde has been in the league for nearly 20 years and he still can't protect the ball. If you ask me, and most don't, Herm should play Brooks Bollinger just to find out whether or not the kid has the aptitude to hang in the pros. They are wasting their time with the old dog that should be put out to pasture. This brings me to another point - its time for Herman Edwards to also go the way of Old Yeller. Perry said it best, "He isn't a coach; he's a cheerleader". The Jets need someone who can control a game, and Edwards has proven year in and year out that he doesn't exude this quality. We are now picking new teams to root for this season. Beach is obviously gone full on Birds since they are in a tight race in the ultra competitive NFC East. Perry has joined forces with Kyle and is now on team Seahawks. Personally, I'm a bit on the fence. The Giants are playing good football and I'd certainly enjoy seeing them come out of the division that contains the Cowboys, Eagles and Redskins, but their defense sucks and that is my favorite part of the game. So unless the Jets step it up, my interim team for the 2005 season is going to be the Chicago Bears because of their nasty D anchored by middle linebacker Brian Urlacher, (my apologies to Dana for rooting for a team in the Packers division). If Kyle Orton can slowly learn how to run an offense while the defense stays strong, the Bears have a chance to win that division with a 9-7 or 10-6 record. Da Bears!

Dude, picking secondary teams is totally gay. Part of being a fan is rooting for a shitty team sometimes. Besides, the Jets defense is pretty damn good, you just can't have them on the field for the whole fucking game.

That being sad, I'm the newest member of the Lions bandwagon. Garcia is super-fab!

ok, a couple things, yes, i'm fully of the camp that secondary teams are bullshit, especially when your team isn't out of the playoff runnings yet. but they are no fun to watch. its so tough, and i will root for them every sunday, but i have to displace my love for the time being. i don't want this to end in divorce. that being said, i went to an NFC team just to make it some what right. one more thing, the Lions have great potential now. if garcia can hang. i think they should release harrington, we should pick him up on waivers and see if a change of scenary could help him out. i know that won't happen cause he is a solid backup, but its wishful thinking and i'm at odds with vinny. also, yes, their D is fifth in the AFC and something like 12th overall, but they continue to let mediocre backs break into the 2nd and 3rd levels. i think with the weapons, they should be a top five Defense

I'm actually rooting for the Jets to lose now. Think about it; they are not winning anything this year and wouldn't it be just like the Jets to go something like 7-9, not make the playoffs, and get stuck with the 14th pick? They should start Bollinger, see is he can become a reliable back up in an emergency situation down the road. Also, with their schedule it's possible they may not win another game all year. Personally I wouldn't be opposed to going 2-14 and starting '06 with either Brady Quinn or Reggie Bush depending how badly San Fran and the Pack finish. One more thing, I can't imagine there's another d that has spent as much time on the field as the Jets. The Jets must lead the league in three and outs, and I wouldn't be surprised if the 2005 Jets defense averages more time on field per game than any other team in the history of the NFL. Is there any way to research this?

ummm... i like your logic, but i guarantee quinn will stick with weis for one more season (if walker sticks around - which he probably will). They have a real shot next year if they all come back. go irish.
