The past few days were dedicated solely to work. My apologies to those of you checking the blog expecting to read the regular shitshow buffoonery. Monday and Tuesday were virtually all business. The work at my day job has picked back up, but I'm almost done with my huge project so the blog might pick up again soon. In a conscious effort to get caught up on all things Loose, I've been avoiding clubs. This is also tied to my need to save as much money as possible for this weekend. Little Belin is visiting from Thursday through Sunday, and the girl knows how to spend money. I'm hoping to keep up with her. Guys, keep your fucking hands off her. I don't want to be convicted of assault in the near future.
Unfortunately I've missed some killer shows. One of my favorites, VHS or Beta played the Bowery Monday night. I stayed in to stare at a computer for hours. On Tuesday a bunch of Canadians (including Stars) played the Mercury Lounge. From what I've read, they were fantastic. Thankfully I'll have a chance to see them at the Bowery in the coming months.
Noah met me after work yesterday for a hot minute of hang time. We had a disgusting meal while discussing how cool it would be to have your kid tell you they've been given a chance to be rock stars. This came on the heals of Noah calling his mom to say good bye before Sam Champion hits the road today. Good luck to them and the many other friends who are weaving their way down to Austin for next weeks SXSW festival.
So like I said my eyes are deteriorating from all the time spent starring at a computer screen. Organizing a huge web site is a lot of work. I wish someone would have warned me. Anyway, one of the less stressful things Mike and I have done in the last few days was the creation of a Loose Record Myspace Account. If you have a minute, check us out and be our friend, (we are lonely). It’s a good way to keep updated as we inch toward launch. Oh, and for the (Loose) Record; we are not a record label. We are a publication that is 50% promotion and 50% critique. We aren’t going to love everything, but dammit we’ll try. While I’m on the topic, please stop by the web site and sign up for the Loose Mailer, (check your spam box for mail from loosemailer(at)looserecord.com; we’ve heard the mailer has been denied by a few accounts). The next mailer will be hitting boxes on Monday.
All this time at home I've been sequestered in the West Wing. This has given me an opportunity to listen to some of the records kind folks have passed my way. Here is a five word recap for each record.
1. The End of the World, S/T EP: More earnest than P. Warrell.
2. Heartless Bastards, Stairs and Elevators: Dirty garage. Smells like Detroit.
3. Man Man, Man In Blue Turben: Beefheart? I’ll pass.
4. Louis XIV, Illegal Tender EP: Old perverts still can rock.
5. Doves, Some Cities: A properly produced new direction.
6. Menomena, I Am the Fun Blame Monster: Cooler then Ben and Jerry’s.
