Last night I returned home after the party at Eleven and proceeded to listen to the new Trail of Dead album, World Apart straight through. Now there are bags under my eyes like I’m some sort of seasoned drug addict, but I wouldn’t change one piece of last night. Thanks so much to all the kids who braved the wicked cold weather to come have a beer with me. You guys made my night. Thanks also to Audrey for giving me a shot to rock Atomique and for putting up with the few hipityhopity tracks that were played. It was awesome to the max. There will be more to come on the whole evening, but I have to get some work done before rambling on about the semi-drunken exploits of last night. In the mean time, here is a list of a few songs I played in no particular order:
- New Order, Regrets
- Michal Jackson, Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough
- LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk Is Playing At My House
- The Libertines, Don’t Look Back Into The Sun
- Gang of Four, Return the Gift
- Guided by Voices, Glad Girls
- The Go! Team, Power Is On
- 50 Cent, In Da Club
- Broken Social Scene, KC Accidental
- The Pixies, Umass
- Superchunk, Beat My Guest
- Joy Division, Digital
- The Faint, Glass Dance World
- DJ Shadow, Organ Donor
- David Bowie, Rebel Rebel
- The Thermals, How We Know
- ESG, Dance
- Mark Ronson, On The Run
- The Undertones, I Gotta Getta
- Weezer, Paperface
There may have been more, but considering my typical memory that list is pretty fucking good. Again, thanks soooooo much to everyone who took a second to stop in or stuck it out and danced like a monkey with me, (I'm pointing to you Mr. Rothfeld). You make me warm inside. Now go away. I need to be alone. I kid. I kid.
So it’s Friday which means there are a few announcements I have to make regarding this evening. Tonight you have the opportunity to get a little cultured followed quickly by getting a lot of drunk. First up is an art show featuring a Mexican Santa Clause who may or may not be played by my big brother. Last night I vaguely remembered promising that if we took a picture with me on his lap, my tongue would be in his mouth. Don’t worry mom, I’m still straight. If Nate in a Santa costume isn’t enough to get your panties in a bunch, there will be work on display by David Black and Brendan Donnelly. These boys are the Real-Deal-Holyfield when it comes to the bustling young art scene. Ok, that sounded terrible, but they do great work. Trust me. Here is the information from a Brendan MySpace post, but what’s with his math:
Come to an art show on Friday. Its 3 hours out of you’re night and you'd be doing the same thing from 8-10 with you’re bros: drinking shitty beers, clowning around and telling stories of last nights romps around town. But here’s the catch; you get to see some awesome work by a group of talented people.
149 Reade St. (between Hudson and Greenwich)
Friday night, the 28th of January (8-10pm)
Brendan Donnelly
Jason nuncio
David Black
Dave Toro
Blake Connelly Lamar
Rebecca vet
Katherine Hillier
Matt Lopez
and a bunch more…
Photos, illustration, painting, instillation and I think the dudes Vietnam might Dj (and do trucker speed) but not sure if their in town yet.
Once you’re done at the art show, expect a bit of an after party, but at 11:00pm it will be time to hop a cab back to the neighborhood to see Karl, Scott, Simon and Sascha’s band, The Stammers at the Luna Lounge. This will be their final show at the famed L.E.S. club, so come show them love in a venue that’s done nothing but. As you know Luna Lounge is going the way of Old Yeller, (so is Mighty Robot, Fez and Plaid). This is all to disappointing so you’ll want to go support the clubs as they fade away into the memories of us all, (fuck, I couldn’t be lamer this morning). Anyway, don’t think I’m lazy because there are so many emails posted here, but if it matters, I feel lazy. Check out what Mr. Cardinal had to say:
Hey everybody,
We're playing a show on Friday the 28th at Luna Lounge (171 Ludlow bet. Houston and Stanton). The set will begin at 11:30 so you should be nice and early and there is no cover... so you're all on the list. I (Karl) will also be drinking any beverage one wishes to buy me before, during and after the show.
If you send this email to 10 people I'll give you $1000. If any of those people send this email to 10 other people they get $1000 AND you get $200.
See you there!
Karl is bringing his checkbook so make sure you bring the properties of your sent emails. I plan on making 50k today. Ok, dress warm or stick to the credo, ‘Fashion before comfort’ and have a great time.
One more note: You should buy the Trail of Dead album. I shit you not.
