This summer is shaping up to feel like one long day. Even the weekends are losing their glossy finish, but we are trying to make the best of it. The big question this weekend was: What happened to all of my Manhattan friends who had roofs to party on? Have you all jumped ship to the other boroughs or have I just lost touch? Either way, this must be remedied because this kid will soon collapse in anxiety if he isn’t starring into the downtown light show.
Lizzy was kind enough to hook up her moving crew with a free dinner that was cashed in on Friday. Dan, Erin, Jeff, Liz and I stuffed our faces at Festival. I tried to fool myself into thinking something would be better than a chicken quesadilla, and naturally, I was wrong. Word to the wise; don’t go for the mole sauce, (Erin learned the hard way). After dinner the only action imaginable was sleep so I returned home and passed out for a few hours.
By midnight the troops rallied me out of the house. I met Cami, Danielle, Erin and Leah for drinks at Odessa. We were joined by Allie, Christina and some other kats. You would figure with all these ladies something may come up roses for this superhero, but we wouldn’t want the summer trend to dispel itself. After a couple hours of Erin being a rockstar, Elise, Cami and I headed to Beach’s for some late night margaritas with Noah, Oveis and the Beach who was in top form.
Saturday started out lovely. I met up with Cami before heading to Virgin Megastore. I had been up since the 8am watching 24 Hour Party People so I decided to get myself some 80’s British Dance Rock. Unfortunately the “Megastore” was seriously lacking. They didn’t have a single Happy Monday’s record, or maybe they did and I couldn’t find them. I did score records from New Order, The Concretes, Volcano, I’m Still Excited! and Little Richard. I tried to get Cami to buy a Mr. Big record, but she wasn’t having it.
In any event we headed to watch the young skaters at Thompkins while enjoying a Falafel Burrito from Lite Touch. We knew a to go margarita was in order so we stopped by El Nuevo before hitting up economy candy so I could continue my decadent lifestyle.
We returned to 186 and decided it was time for some HORSE at the park across the street from the pad. We were joined by the cripple who wiped the floor with our sorry asses. Since the heat was unbearable we joined in the sprinkler festivities with the neighborhood kids, one of which who rocked out with his gold chains and random battle calls. I’m nearly convinced I should make one of my own.
Sighting mild fatigue and an intense dehydration we headed back to El Nuevo for some more margaritas before joining Stevo and Jenny for a couple top shelf drinks that sucked top shelf dick. I don’t remember where we were, but it was on Orchard next to Rivertown and it reminded me of Jaffe. Don’t go there. It blew so we (minus Kyle and Cami) went to Paladar where I enjoyed a killer Cuban sandwich and half price margaritas. Once again a nap was on the horizon.
No plans had been formulated while I was recharging so kids just cruised over to our house for some drinks and cards. We hung out until the night became morning. Little cash was spent which is always a plus. The evening highlight happened when Leah called to say she wasn’t coming because she was busy puking out of a cab.
Sunday’s are for lovers, and if I weren’t so damn single I would have spent it with someone. Instead, I rode out to Noah’s with Dan and Hawkins so we could play some Wiffleball at Prospect Park. Simon, Jeff, Liz, Leah, Erin and Cami joined us so we had a couple sizeable teams. Unfortunately we all sucked so no runs were scored and the game ended in a zero zero tie. Who does that? We had to cut the game short because I turn into a pumpkin if I’m not in the L.E.S. by sundown.
