Busy Bee. Happy Bee.
So tonight is going to be one hectic evening, but it will be one of those welcomed messes where you finish the day exhausted and full of rock. First up, I'm planning to see Finn Andrews (formerly of the Veils) perform at the Mercury Lounge. The website says its an acoustic set which means Finn's voice will be on display. Let's hope it holds up with all the shreeks. Second on the To Do list is seeing some of VHS or Beta's set at the Bowery. This show was listed in the new Flavorpill by me, so check it out and sign up to the Pill if you are in one of our many cities. Finally, I'll be making my way to Rothko to check out Sivan and Karen as the two-piece Demander. Don't be surprised if I can't remember any of this in the morning.
Some Notes From The Underground.
*** Check out my Shout Out Louds listing for next Monday's show at the Mercury. If you can't make that, they will be playing Rothko Friday night. Don't miss this band.
*** Guided by Culkins will give us one more chance to see Bob Pollard down as much Bud as possible while continuing to defy gravity with his high leg kicks. Bob, why are you playing Irving?
*** Morrissey speaks out on Arthur Kane's death. Will the NY Dolls still play Little Stevie's Garage Rock Fest at Randells? Does anyone know the answer to that question? If so, any bassist in mind?
*** The Velvet Teen get ready to drop their second album while taking their show to the road. Thanks to Karen for turning me onto this band. I tried to fight it at first because there was a hippy jam band back home with a similar name, but now I can't deny the love.
*** Superchunk are releasing a live show on CD, but where the hell are my two favorite songs, (Small Definition and Beat Me Up).
*** Are the authorities sure this man's name wasn't Johnny Beach?
