I’m An April Fool.

As promised, I’m here to do an evening recap, but unfortunately there are portions of the evening that remain a mystery, (i.e. Why were my pants in the bathroom this morning? And did Beach really leave me a sandwich on the doorstep?). This is how it all began.

Beach and I met up at 2a for a couple of early drinks. After a couple pints were put away, we were joined by Christie who has recently returned from visiting our friends Jeff and Tara out in sunny San Diego. She has a classic Moser story for those of you who know the kid, so make sure to ask her next time you see her smiling face. We retired to the second floor of the bar to hang out with Beach’s friend Mikki James (well, that’s his stage name, his real name escapes me right now) who is now playing bass with Johnny Lives. He was a real nice cat, and I strongly suggest you tip him big next time you are in the hood. Before we left, Hymee (a friend of Nate’s) came upstairs and asked me where my brother was. It was in jest, but little did he know, he was the first of a series of mistaken identities that would occur this evening.

The three of us piled into a cab and made our way to Shades of Green to meet Noah and Bri for a quick car bomb before heading to Irving. It came to my attention that a car bomb shot is topped off with some Jameson. I’ve never realized that, but at that point of the evening I feared bringing whiskey into the mix. The fear of the ridicule from not doing the delicious bomb pushed me into throwing it back. Beach and I said a quick goodbye and cruised into Irving Plaza with a proper buzz brewing.

We arrived during changeover and ran into three of Beach’s friends. They were all lovely ladies whose names started with the letter M, but they escaped me at this point. Damn I should start writing these things down. One of the girls asked me if I was at the show last night. After confirming, they kind of giggled and said they thought I was Mo Rocca of The Daily Show fame. Maybe it was the swept bangs or the glasses, but I’m sure the girls were too drunk to realize how bad their comparison was. We cruised back to the bar and did a quick tequila shot and got a beer.

We went upstairs to see who was around. We ran into Colin from Big Hassle who was with Juliet from the same company. She came up to me and started talking to me. I remembered meeting this girl ages ago at a Katie and Amy party on 13th street. I even got her phone number, but regrettably never used it. Anyway, she started talking to me as though I was Jay from the Panthers who I’ve heard looks like me, though I don’t remember them enough to confirm. Once she realized her mistake (only after showing me to one of her friends) we made nice and moved on. I was on the hunt for Molly so I could give her the O.C. tape, but she never turned up.

I ran into Jin and Mike from the Realistics who told me that he and Will, who plays keys in the band, will be performing with Brendan Benson at the Mercury Lounge. It’s been ages since I’ve seen Mike, and it’s always nice to here what he’s been cooking. At this point, the Walkmen were taking the stage so Beach and I headed downstairs to get ready for battle. Once we got into position we noticed that Adam was standing right in front of us so we all settled in for a fantastic Walkmen set.

By the time they hit I was well past my limit, so my thoughts on the show are pretty much limited to Holy Shit! And That Was Fucking Awesome! They really sounded fantastic. And The Rat was just what I had expected. The crowd wasn’t reacting much, maybe because they were in awe, but really that place should have been torn down. They were loud. They were fast. And they looked sharp. A slimmed down Hamilton controlled the stage like a madman. It was really a delight.

It was also amazing because somehow, Erin, Leah and Cami found us and joined in our loving of the rock. After some goodbyes, Beach and I met up with some kids at Rivertown Lounge who were celebrating Puja’s birthday. A successful Culkin was executed by on Ryan. The kid went down and the place turned into a minefield. This is where I shut down, but Noah told me I went home relatively close to the incident.

Thursday night was just what this guy needed. I think its my new favorite day of the week.

Today’s Ipod mix included: Adam Green, Hard to be a Girl; Iggy and the Stooges, Shake Appeal; Television Personalities, Jackanory Stories; Silver Jews, Federal Dust; Natural History, Broken Language; Juinor Senior, Chicks and Dicks; The Sounds, Hope Your Happy Now; Wipers, Voices in the Rain.
