Let's Get Dirty.
Today the Florida Primary is occurring, which is the state that gave Bush the election. It was that close. Oveis and I had a discussion Sunday and he informed me that a state such as New Hampshire, that went Republican last Presidential Election and normally has little electoral impact, could have been the state that kept Gore out of the White House. Oveis assessed that Bush has no where to go but down. A race that close coupled with a term characterized by economic devastation could only mean that our democratic candidate, no matter who it is, stands a good chance to beat the billions of dollars pumped into the Bush campaign.
But we all know that John Kerry has won the democratic nod and will be our nominee. With close to eight months to go before the Presidential Election, the political crossfire has begun. I'm going to be nauseous by the time we step into the booths to vote for our next Commander and Chief. Eight long months of Peter Jennings starting the six o'clock news with segments about how much mud is being slung by each camp. It will get exhausting, but my hope is that Kerry won't waver to far from the issues. GWB's main objective is to paint the decorated senator as a flip flop artist, a man who can't stick to his guns. Kerry's record has shown that his opinion has shifted in the past, but what’s really wrong with that idea? Retrospect gives us the ability to make educated decisions. Why not change your stance on the war, if the reason for war was never validated? Can't we focus on the real issues? Kerry leads most polls that ask which man will better lead the economic recovery. Kerry also leads environmentally conscious polls. Come to think of it, the only poll that Kerry consistently loses is in regards to terrorism. Voters believe that Bush is better equipped to deal with terrorists and their ongoing threat. Expect to hear a lot of fear rhetoric in the coming months. Its the one card that the good old boy from Texas can play, and he'll beat it into the ground. Don't be surprised if the CIA lets another slip through their grasp before the November Election. Kerry is right in questioning Bush's 1 hour sit down with the committee. Why can't our president devote more time to an investigation into the tragedy his platform is using to levy votes?
Sorry, sometimes I get carried away. It makes me feel like my father which could be dangerous.
Kicking It Lazy Style.
Last night came and went with a blink of an eye. I did some writing and sat around trying to pound through Marc Spitz's novel How Soon Is Never. For some reason it feels like I've been reading this book for years, and now I'm making the push to finish it. It feels like I'm reading some real life hipster soap opera in which the characters are people I know, kids at the same shows as me and older men whom I will eventually grow to imitate. Its a bit on the spooky side, but I digress.
I also fell asleep watching The School of Rock which came out on video last Tuesday. I almost forgot how great this film is. Jack Black is hilarious and at the same time, a really big sweetheart. He does so well with his students. If only I had a teacher like him, I may be playing music rather than trying to pen my opinions on it. Also, if Barbs is reading today, is the little white backup singer you from childhood? Every time that girl was on screen, all I could think was that they took you, put you in a time machine and placed you int that movie. Come on Jessica, tell me the truth!
Let The News Do The Talking.
I hope that all my friends who were in Miami last week for M3 were at this panel that featured Dj Danger Mouse discussing the success and dangers of his Grey Album. If they weren't at the panel, hopefully they were at his set. I can't wait to see Burton do his thing at Coachella.
There are some big releases today. Franz Ferdinand comes out domestically while TV on the Radio finally drops their full length debut. Also look out for a Dead Kennendys live record and a Disco Inferno reissue.
Look kids, they like it. They really really like it! I thought they might try to pull a fast one on us, but they realize that it’s just music.
In another review, they kind of like it. I'm buying this record today. No question.
The Von Bondies sophomore record also gets a proper domestic release. Rolling Stone has something to say about it. Spin has a great sit down with Jason regarding all things Detroit. If you are a fan, this one is worth the read.
A troubled hipster wastes more of our time. These Filter columns have no real direction. Who approves these pitches? This girl is a dime a fucking dozen. A troubled scene queen who wants so much attention, but is to stuck up to admit it.
Gary Libertine gives us and explanation of why Pete ran off stage the other night. I guess this will do, but who really believes that? Tell me how much heroin he was on.
The European Union gets medieval on file sharers' asses. This is a serious directive that may allow authorities to freeze bank accounts and raid homes in order to protect the new Britney single.
William gets well Hung. Koch has signed the failed American Idol participant. This boy is poised to take over the world. Its a perfect example of how media coverage is the main ingredient in making an artist. Talent comes further down the pole.
This link is for Karen. She is an accomplished viola player, that’s why!
Napster may go under. Their sales are falling and the HP diss didn't help much either. What the hell is Eric Garland talking about in this article? He claims people thought it would be easy to take on the pirating sights. That is crazy. Free versus not free. You make the choice.
More on Franz Ferdinand. Why do they make dance rock? For the girls, stupid. These Scots may take over the world.
Today's Ipod mix includes: Razorlight, Stumble and Fall single; The Strokes, Reptilia single (with unreleased bside featuring Regina Spektor); Modest Mouse, The Lonesome Crowded West.
