And I used to think Unicorns were Gay.

Mondays are often considered the worst day of the week. Anyone who has seen Office Space knows, having a case of the "Mondays" can be a royal pain in the ass. Fortunately, my Monday blew that assumption out of the water.

After work and a final (yup, I'm still in school), I headed down to my friend Liz's apartment for a home cooked meal. Little did I know, Liz has the goods when it comes to working her way around a kitchen. Consumption of turkey chili and spinach ensued, and by 9pm my belly was happy.

Then we scooted over to my place for some quick freshies prior to heading to the Mercury to meet the Beaches and catch some Monday rock. First on our bill was The Self-Starter Foundation's We Ragazzi. They played an interesting set filled with complex driving beats (damn, their drummer can keep some serious time) and some occasionally off putting, melodramatic singing. Their songs were very sparse and they relied on their vocalist's voice a bit to much, but it was still a fun set. Pick up their album, Suicide Sound System, for a decent representation of their overly confident indie rock.

Second on our bill, and the closers of the evening was Montreal's freshest export, the Unicorns. Let me say it now, these guys are a lot of fun, (maybe to much fun). It was one of those sets that sucks you in and demands you to participate or die. They came out in outrageous 8T's style garb with cheap plastic sunglasses, (think Pretty in Pink era). They sifted through a retro pop set that came with layers of fuzz and piles of beats. Their dark, yet hilarious, lyrics made ever hipster in the house smile uncontrollably for the entire hour. Songs titled Jelly Bones, Sea Ghost and Unicorns are People too were lo-fi gems that should be in everyone's doughnut. I highly recommend this band, and if you don't believe me, following their show I bought their debut cd, Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone, which is something I rarely do. Oh, and believe me, the vibe carries over to the recorded material. (RIYL: Pavement, Adam Green, etc).

Things are getting wild in the NYC. But don't worry, NJ told all the people who own guns to get out there and kill them some animals, (thanks to Liz for the link).

P Funk era funked out with a cocaine twist. Big George gets busted.

I'm happy to hear that the Music have surfaced. They put on one hell of a show.

Yesterday Ozzy's off the pills, but today he takes a spill. Sometimes I can't help myself.

For all you GBV fans: I found a blurb on this special edition demo sale on Billboard. Pre-order yours now while you still can.

Test your knowledge by taking The Rolling Stones Top 500 Albums quiz.

Here is your WTF picture of the day. Britney dressing up in traditional Korean attire.

I don't know what the Sun's problem is. I think the White Stripes look sharp.

Today on the headset: The Unicorns, Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone.
